Why Use This Tool?
Is my photo uploaded to any server?
No. Every step — loading the image, picking a color, and removing matching pixels — happens locally in your browser using the Canvas API. Your photo never leaves your device, which is especially reassuring when working with personal portraits or private images.
Does this use AI to detect the subject automatically?
No, and we want to be upfront about that. This tool uses color-based removal: it reads the exact color you click and makes every pixel within your chosen tolerance transparent. It works great on flat, solid, single-color backgrounds like a plain studio backdrop, colored poster board, or white wall — but it won't intelligently separate a complex or busy background from a subject the way AI-based tools do.
What does the tolerance slider control?
Tolerance controls how similar a pixel's color must be to your picked color to also be removed. A low tolerance only removes near-identical shades (good for very uniform backgrounds), while a higher tolerance removes a broader range — useful if your background has slight shadows or gradient, but risky if it starts eating into your subject's edges.
Why does the result download as PNG?
PNG is the only common format that supports transparency. Downloading as JPEG would fill the "removed" areas with a solid color instead of leaving them see-through, so this tool always exports PNG to preserve the transparent background.
