How to Use the Barcode Scanner
- Click "Start Camera" and allow camera access when your browser asks.
- Point your camera at a QR code, keeping it inside the highlighted frame and well lit.
- The moment a code is recognized, the camera stops automatically and the decoded text appears below.
- Use "Copy Result" to copy the text, or "Scan Again" to read another code.
Why Use This Tool?
Is my camera feed recorded or uploaded anywhere?
No. The video stream stays inside your browser tab and is never recorded, saved, or transmitted to any server. Each frame is analyzed locally in your browser's memory purely to detect a code, then immediately discarded. Nothing leaves your device unless you explicitly copy the decoded text yourself.
What if I deny camera access, or my browser blocks it?
If you deny the camera permission prompt or your browser/device blocks camera access, the tool shows a friendly message explaining that camera access is required and how to re-enable it in your browser's site settings. No error is silently ignored — you'll always know what happened.
Does this scan traditional 1D barcodes like UPC or EAN?
This tool is built on the jsQR library, which reliably decodes QR codes (2D matrix codes) but is not designed for traditional 1D barcodes such as UPC, EAN or Code 128. For product barcodes printed on packaging, a dedicated 1D barcode scanner app will give better results. For QR codes on posters, menus, WiFi cards, tickets and business cards, this tool works great.
Why isn't my code scanning?
Make sure the QR code is well lit, in focus, and fills a good portion of the highlighted frame. Reflections, glare, extreme angles or very small/damaged codes can make detection harder. Try moving closer or steadying your device for a moment.
