Why Use This Tool?
How is a fraction converted to a decimal?
Simple division — the numerator is divided by the denominator (e.g. 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75). The percentage is then that decimal multiplied by 100. Recurring decimals (like 1/3 = 0.333…) are shown rounded to a reasonable number of decimal places.
How does decimal → fraction conversion work?
The decimal is first converted into a fraction over a large fixed denominator (1,000,000), for example 0.75 becomes 750000/1000000. The Greatest Common Divisor (GCD) of the numerator and denominator is then found using the Euclidean algorithm, and both numbers are divided by it to reduce the fraction to its simplest form — in this case, 3/4.
Does it handle repeating or very precise decimals?
Because the tool uses a fixed precision of six decimal places (a denominator of 1,000,000) before simplifying, decimals like 0.333333 will simplify close to but not exactly 1/3 — this is a practical trade-off that works well for everyday measurements, recipes, engineering tolerances and school math, though truly irrational or very long repeating decimals won't reduce to a perfectly "clean" fraction.
