How to Use the Fuel Cost Calculator

  1. Choose Metric (kilometers and liters per 100km) or Imperial (miles and miles per gallon).
  2. Enter the total distance of your trip.
  3. Enter your vehicle's fuel efficiency, and the current fuel price per liter or gallon.
  4. The total fuel needed and total trip cost update instantly as you type.

Why Use This Tool?

How is the fuel cost calculated?

In Metric mode, fuel needed = distance ÷ 100 × (liters per 100km), then multiplied by the fuel price per liter. In Imperial mode, fuel needed = distance ÷ MPG (gallons used), multiplied by the fuel price per gallon. Both formulas are the same math the industry uses to estimate consumption, just expressed in the unit system you prefer.

Where do I find my vehicle's fuel efficiency?

Check your car's manual, manufacturer specification sheet, or your dashboard's trip computer if it tracks average consumption. If you don't know it exactly, a rough estimate (e.g. 7–9 L/100km for a typical sedan, or 25–35 MPG) still gives a useful ballpark figure for budgeting a trip.

Can I use this for round trips or multi-leg journeys?

Yes — simply enter the total combined distance of all legs of your journey (for a round trip, double the one-way distance) and the calculator will estimate the total fuel and cost for the entire trip in one go.

Is this an exact price I'll pay?

This is a close estimate based on the numbers you provide. Real-world fuel use varies with driving style, traffic, road gradient, vehicle load and weather, and fuel prices can change between when you calculate and when you fill up — treat the result as a reliable planning figure rather than an exact quote.
