Why Use This Tool?
How is GPA calculated?
GPA is a credit-weighted average: each letter grade is converted to grade points on a 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D = 1.0, F = 0.0), multiplied by that course's credit hours, summed across all courses, and divided by the total credit hours. This weighting means a 4-credit course affects your GPA more than a 1-credit course.
Does this match my school's official GPA scale?
This calculator uses the most common US 4.0 unweighted scale. Many schools use this exact scale, but some use variations (weighted scales for honors/AP courses, plus/minus adjustments, or different point values). Always check your institution's official grading policy and use their official transcript for enrollment or graduation decisions.
Can I calculate a cumulative GPA across semesters?
Yes — simply add every course from every semester you want included as its own row, with the correct credit hours. The calculator weights every row equally by credit hours regardless of which semester it came from, giving you a true cumulative GPA.
Is my grade data stored anywhere?
No. All calculations run locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your courses, grades and credit hours are never uploaded, logged or saved — they disappear when you close or refresh the page.
