How many hashtags should I actually use?

Instagram technically allows up to 30 hashtags per post, but many creators and studies suggest 3-8 well-chosen, relevant tags perform just as well as a wall of 30 and look less spammy in the caption. Twitter/X and LinkedIn audiences respond best to a much lighter touch — generally 1-5 hashtags — since more than that can read as cluttered or reduce perceived post quality.

Why does the tool separate total vs. unique hashtags?

It's easy to accidentally repeat a hashtag when writing a long caption, especially if you've copied phrases from an older post. Comparing the total count to the unique count instantly flags duplicates so you can remove the repeat and use that space for a more effective tag instead.

How does the hashtag detection work?

The tool uses a simple pattern match that looks for a "#" symbol immediately followed by letters, numbers or underscores, which mirrors how Instagram, X and TikTok all parse hashtags. Punctuation, emoji and spaces correctly end a hashtag, so "#sunset!" is still counted correctly as "#sunset".
