Why Use This Tool?
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The pixelation effect is generated entirely within your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API — your image is drawn down to a tiny intermediate canvas and then scaled back up, all in local memory. It's never uploaded, transmitted, or stored anywhere, which is especially important if you're pixelating a photo specifically to hide a face, license plate, address, or other sensitive detail before sharing it.
How does the pixelation effect actually work?
The classic mosaic trick draws your full-size image onto a very small intermediate canvas (shrinking it down based on your chosen block size), with smoothing disabled so no blending occurs, then scales that tiny canvas back up to the original size. Because smoothing is off, each shrunk-down "super-pixel" becomes a large, sharp-edged block when enlarged — producing the classic blocky pixelation look rather than a blur.
Will this permanently hide sensitive information?
Pixelation at a strong enough block size makes fine details like faces or text unreadable to the human eye in the final downloaded image, since the original pixel data used to create each block is not preserved in the output file. However, always double-check the result at full size before sharing, and use a strong-enough block size for the level of detail you need to obscure — light pixelation on high-resolution source images can sometimes still leave patterns partially recognizable.
