Why Use This Tool?
What are the actual limits for each platform?
Instagram allows a maximum of 2,200 characters per caption but visually truncates the caption behind a "more" link after roughly the first 125 characters. Facebook allows up to 63,206 characters total but typically shows only around the first 477 characters before collapsing the rest behind "See more." Both limits can shift slightly by device and app version, so treat these as reliable working benchmarks rather than absolute pixel-perfect cutoffs.
Why does the truncation point matter so much?
Most viewers decide whether to tap "more" within the first second of seeing a post, so your hook, call-to-action, or key point should land before the truncation point on whichever platform you're posting to, not buried further down in the caption.
Can I use the same caption on both platforms?
You can, but since the visible preview length differs significantly between the two, a caption optimized for Instagram's short preview may waste Facebook's much longer preview window, and vice versa. Checking both counts before posting helps you decide whether to adapt the opening lines per platform.
