IP Address Lookup

Click the button below to instantly detect the public IP address your device is currently using to connect to the internet. This is the one tool on our site that calls a third-party service to work — see the FAQ below for full transparency on how it works.

Click "Detect My IP" to look up your public IP address.

How to Use the IP Address Lookup Tool

  1. Click "Detect My IP".
  2. Your browser sends a direct request to the free ipify.org API, which replies with your current public IP address.
  3. The result is displayed instantly on this page — nothing further is stored.
  4. If detection fails (e.g. no internet connection), a friendly error message will be shown instead.

Why Use This Tool?

How does this tool actually get my IP address?

This tool calls a free, publicly available third-party API — ipify.org — directly from your browser using JavaScript's fetch(). This is the only tool on our site that involves a network request to a service outside our own site; every other tool here runs 100% offline in your browser. ipify's free tier requires no API key or signup, and it does not involve any server of ours — your browser talks to ipify directly.

What exactly does ipify see or store?

Like any web request, ipify's servers see the IP address making the request (which is, by definition, the answer being requested) at the moment of the call. We don't control or have visibility into ipify's own logging practices; refer to ipify.org's own documentation for their policies. No data passes through or is stored on our servers at any point.

Is this my exact location?

No. A public IP address can be used to make a rough estimate of your general region (often just your ISP's city or country), but it does not reveal your precise location, name, or identity on its own.

Why would I want to know my IP address?

Common uses include troubleshooting network or VPN connections, verifying your connection changed after switching networks, whitelisting your IP for a firewall or admin panel, or simply satisfying curiosity about how your device appears to the outside internet.
