Stopwatch & Countdown Timer
A precise stopwatch with lap splits, and a countdown timer that beeps when time's up — both in one free tool. Everything runs locally in your browser using your device's clock, so timing stays accurate even if your connection drops.
How to Use the Stopwatch & Countdown Timer
- For the stopwatch, click "Start" to begin timing, "Pause" to freeze it, and "Lap" to record a split without stopping.
- Click "Reset" to clear the stopwatch back to zero and remove all recorded laps.
- For the countdown, enter a number of minutes and seconds, then click "Start".
- The countdown updates live every second; click "Pause" to hold it or "Reset" to return it to your entered duration.
- When the countdown reaches zero, you'll see a "Time's up!" message and hear a short beep (make sure your device volume is on).
Why Use This Tool?
How accurate is the stopwatch?
The stopwatch measures elapsed time using your device's own high-resolution clock, updating the display roughly every 30 milliseconds and showing time down to hundredths of a second. This makes it accurate enough for workouts, cooking, presentations, timing games, or any everyday task where you need a reliable running clock without installing an app.
How does the lap feature work?
Each time you click "Lap" while the stopwatch is running, the current elapsed time is recorded and added to the list above the buttons, with the most recent lap at the top. This lets you capture split times — for example, each kilometer of a run — without ever pausing the overall clock. Laps clear when you hit "Reset".
Will the countdown timer make a sound when it finishes?
Yes. When the countdown reaches zero, the tool plays a short beep generated directly in your browser using the Web Audio API — no audio file download required. Some browsers block audio until you've interacted with the page at least once, so click anywhere on the page before starting the countdown if you don't hear anything.
Do I need to keep this tab open for the countdown to work?
Yes — the timer only runs while this page is loaded in your browser. Closing the tab or your browser will stop the countdown. Most browsers will still update the timer accurately even if the tab is in the background, just make sure not to close it before your countdown finishes.
