Text-to-Speech Tool
Type or paste any text and have it read aloud instantly, using your browser and operating system's built-in speech voices. Choose a voice, adjust the speaking rate and pitch, then click Speak — no upload or account needed.
How to Use the Text-to-Speech Tool
- Type or paste the text you want read aloud into the box.
- Pick a voice from the dropdown — available voices depend on your device and browser.
- Adjust the rate (speed) and pitch sliders to taste.
- Click "Speak" to hear it, or "Stop" to cancel playback at any time.
Why Use This Tool?
Is my text sent to a server to generate speech?
No. This tool uses the Web Speech API's speechSynthesis feature, which is built directly into your browser and operating system. The text you type is processed and spoken entirely on your device — nothing is uploaded, logged, or stored anywhere.
Why do the available voices differ between devices?
Voices come from your operating system and browser, not from us — Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and each browser ship a different set of built-in voices. That's why the dropdown may look different on your phone versus your laptop. If a voice list doesn't appear, try waiting a moment or reloading the page, since some browsers load voices asynchronously.
What if my browser doesn't support text-to-speech?
Almost all modern browsers (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox) support the Web Speech API, but a few older or minimal browsers don't. If speech synthesis isn't available, this tool detects that automatically and shows a clear message instead of failing silently, so you'll know right away if you need to switch browsers.
What is this useful for?
Proofreading your own writing by ear often catches awkward phrasing that's easy to miss visually. It's also handy for quick accessibility checks, previewing how a script or speech will sound when read aloud, or simply listening to an article while multitasking.
